Gifts for Seniors provides donated gifts and life-affirming personal contact to isolated seniors in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and surrounding communities through the engagement and support of volunteers and community partners.

Gifts for Seniors began as a Hennepin County volunteer program in 1994. The program grew to serve isolated seniors throughout the seven county metro area. We became an independent, 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2008.

The GFS model is simple, but effective.

  • Donors provide new, unwrapped gifts from our wish list through gift drives or drop-offs at gift barrel locations around the Twin Cities metro area.

  • County and community agency partners pick up gifts for their clients from our seasonal operations center.

  • Agency partners select and personally deliver gifts to isolated seniors they serve — with that they also give the important gift of a life-affirming visit.

  • Community volunteers collect donated gifts and bring them to our operations center where they are sorted, inventoried and displayed.

Gifts for Seniors is governed by an independent board of volunteer trustees who coordinate the work of dozens of volunteers.

Last year, Gifts for Seniors served more than 5,600 isolated seniors in the Twin Cities and seven county metro area with the help of 254 community partners and countless dedicated volunteers.  

Gifts for Seniors has provided gifts and personal contact to tens of thousands of isolated seniors in the metro area since 1994.
