Gifts for Seniors Winter Holiday Donation Program
Our mission is to "Remember Those Whom Others Have Forgotten."
Every year from Thanksgiving through New Years Day, we collect donated
gifts and then throughout the winter the gifts are delivered as a surprise to our area's
most isolated senior citizens who have little or no contact with family or friends.
Since 1994, we’ve delivered donated gifts as a surprise to more than
10,000 isolated seniors in Anoka, Blue Earth, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Nicollet,
Ramsey, Rice, Scott, Washington, and Wright counties. The gifts for the seniors are donated
by individuals, businesses, and groups such as families, employee groups, social clubs,
scout troops, student classrooms, faith based groups, and civic groups in the metro wide
area. All gifts are 100% tax deductible.
In 2009, Minnesota Premier Publications (MPP) continues as the exclusive
print media partner. MPP will promote Gifts For Seniors through their four publications:
Southwest Journal, Downtown Journal, Minnesota Parent, and Minnesota Good Age. KLBB Radio
1220 AM is the exclusive radio media partner. KLBB will promote Gifts For Seniors through
their broadcast to listeners in the metro area.
Since the project’s inception, the Gifts For Seniors program has been
honored with awards from the National Association of Counties, the Minnesota Broadcasters
Association, and the Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration.
The Gifts
We post a “wish list” on this website just before
Thanksgiving. “Wished for” are a wide variety of new unwrapped gift items in the categories
of household goods, recreational items and clothing.
Gifts also include items that can be donated by mail such as checks – made
payable to Gifts For Seniors, non-expiring pre paid transit and phone cards, postage stamps,
and non-expiring gift cards/certificates for grocery stores and discount centers.
We collect
the gifts by posting a list on this website of the
names & locations of businesses that are host sites for “gift collection barrels”.
We deliver the gifts through metro area agencies - such as visiting nurses,
meals-on-wheels, day centers, care centers, and social service agencies that provide year
around direct service to senior citizens - identify the most isolated seniors, select an
appropriate gift for them, arrange for it to be personally delivered, and document that the
gift was received.
New this year:
